AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour took the rockers across the globe for 20 months to perform for over 5 million people in 108 cities in over 28 countries. It finally came to a close, June 28th in Bilboa, Spain.

With their music clearly standing the test of time, AC/DC’s tour takes the crown for the highest grossing tour, globally, for the first half of 2010. 1.8 million tickets were sold, grossing a total of $177.5 million globally to rockers beat out Bon Jovi, Metallica, James Taylor and Carole King and the Black Eyed Peas. This is quite an accomplishment since the touring in North America is at its lowest since 2005.

The drop in demand for touring is said to be the result of the US economy combined with a hike in ticket prices. Big acts such as The Eagles, Jonas Brothers, American Idols, Christina Aguilera, Rhianna, John Mayer, Limp Bizkit and the Go-Go’s have had to downsize tours and, in some cases, cancel shows to compensate.

The success of their tour has also led to being recognized as one of the Top-Earning Musicians of 2010 by Forbes Magazine. The Top 10 music acts collectively took in $372 million between June 2009 and June 2010.

The Top 10:

1. U2
2. AC/DC
3. Beyonce
4. Bruce Springsteen
5. Britney Spears
6. Jay-Z
7. Lady Gaga
8. Madonna
9. Kenny Chesney
10. (tied) Black Eyed Peas, Toby Keith, Coldplay

While you might expect to hear more about AC/DC tickets or tour dates in the news–especially since they are currently touring overseas–this week’s AC/DC buzz is all about a book.

“Rockers and Rollers: An Automotive Autobiography” by Brian Johnson is an autobiography that gives fans a firsthand glimpse into AC/DC and Johnson’s passion for cars. Johnson has been the lead singer for AC/DC since 1980 and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

“Rockers And Rollers,” featuring tales of mayhem, motors and debauchery by AC/DC’s front man will be out in paperback on July 29.

The book isn’t the first to focus on AC/DC, but it is the first autobiography. In 2007 “AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll: The Ultimate Story of the World’s Greatest Rock-and-Roll Band” was written by Murray Engleheart and Arnaud Durieux, and “AC/DC: Two Sides to Every Glory: The Complete Biography” was written by Paul Stenning. In 2009, “Why AC/DC Matters” was written by Anthony Bozza.
